I feel that photo reference is perfectly fine..
its just that photographers just want to get paid..
thats why when that Obama painting sold the photographer did what he/she did because its all about credit and money..
and at the same time its just another form of censorship.
How can you depict a celebrity with out using a photo that is not taken from some body from getty images or any other company unless you go there your self and take the photo?
easier said than done
if it was that big of a deal drawing caricatures would probably be your best bet..as an artist..as far as portraiture..because every body wants the whole" american pie "not just a slice..
